Wild Route Trips

Private safaris in Uganda and across East Africa

Gorillas, the migration, the Serengeti and the Nile. Your dates, your group, nobody else’s.

Every trip is private,
and built around your dates

A silverback seven metres away in Bwindi. The Mara boiling over at a river crossing. Chimpanzees in Kibale before the heat. A crater lake at 1,500 metres with nobody else on it.
We build every trip from nothing, around the month you can actually get away.
Destinations

Start with a country

Uganda for gorillas, chimpanzees and the source of the Nile. Rwanda for Volcanoes National Park and the shortest way in. Kenya for the Maasai Mara and the migration. Tanzania for the Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Kilimanjaro.

What travelling with us
actually means

Planned around you

Your dates, your pace, your budget. Every trip is private and built from nothing, so no stop is on your itinerary because it suited a group.

Permits secured first

Gorilla permits for Bwindi and Volcanoes sell out months ahead in high season. We check them against your dates before anything else is decided.

One guide, start to finish

The same guide meets you at arrivals and is still there on the last morning. You never have to explain yourself twice.

Straight answers before you book

Which walk is genuinely hard. The months permits cost less. Whether ten days would be a better trip at seven. While you can still change it.

When to go

The year, and what it costs you

East Africa sits on the equator, so there is no summer and no winter. What changes is the rain, what the rain does to the roads, and what a gorilla permit costs.

The long dry season

Firm forest trails, short grass in the savanna parks and predictable roads. The busiest months, and gorilla permits for them go first.

The short rains

Rain in the afternoon that rarely lasts the day. Green country, few vehicles, and a USD 600 gorilla permit in November.

The second dry season

Hot and clear, busy over Christmas, then quiet through January. February is the driest month in the south and the best window for the Rwenzori.

The long rains

The wettest stretch and the hardest underfoot. April and May carry the USD 600 permit, birding peaks, and the forest is very nearly empty.

Seven days shaped well
beats ten that were only filled

A month moved by three weeks can empty a forest and take USD 200 off a gorilla permit. Seven days shaped properly will outlast ten that were merely filled. You will hear all of it while you can still act on it.
