Private safaris,
made for you
We build private safaris in Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya and Tanzania: gorillas in Bwindi, the river crossings in the Maasai Mara, the Serengeti and the Nile.
What do you want to see?
Gorillas, the migration and the Big Five, close enough to do in one trip
Mountain gorillas live in only three countries, and two of them are Uganda and Rwanda. The Great Migration moves on a loop between the Serengeti and the Mara, which you can meet in the right place if somebody is watching where the herds actually are. Chimpanzees are an hour on foot into Kibale. The Nile leaves Lake Victoria at Jinja and bursts through the cliffs of Fajao Gorge at Murchison. Kilimanjaro and the Ngorongoro crater are a short flight south.
What makes it work is distance. Bwindi to the Mara is a connecting flight, not a continent. So a trip that would be three separate holidays anywhere else becomes one route, and the only thing deciding that route is what you want to see and the month you can get away.
Every safari here is private: your own pace, and a guide who will wait when the light is good. The itineraries further down are the routes people ask for most often, and every one of them can be changed.

Experiences worth building a safari around
Meet the migration where it is, not where the brochure says
The herds are not on a timetable. They follow rain, and rain moves. July to October is the river crossing season on the Mara River, and February is calving on the southern Serengeti plains, which is the quieter and in many ways the better half of the same event. Booking the month is the decision; booking the exact camp is something we do closer to the date, when there is something real to go on.
Gorillas in Uganda and Rwanda in one week
Southern Bwindi and Volcanoes National Park are about three hours apart by road, across the Cyanika border. Trekking in both inside a week is entirely doable. The forests are different, the walking is different, and a permit costs USD 800 in Uganda against USD 1,500 in Rwanda, so one trek in each costs USD 700 less than two in Rwanda.
Chimpanzees in Kibale from 6:30 in the morning
The standard chimpanzee trek in Kibale starts at 8:00 or 14:00 and gives you one hour with them. The habituation experience starts at 6:30 with the researchers and allows up to four hours. If primates are the reason you are coming, it is the one to ask for.
Murchison Falls by boat
The launch runs about two hours upriver from Paraa to the foot of the falls, where the Nile bursts through the cliffs at the head of Fajao Gorge. On the northern bank, the Buligi Peninsula is the park's prime game-viewing area.
Two nights at the crater lakes near Fort Portal
The Ndali-Kasenda field south of Fort Portal holds dozens of crater lakes, with flat walking between them. We walk the rims and trails and stay out of the water, because bilharzia has been recorded in crater lakes in western Uganda. Two unhurried nights here give a long driving route a rest in the middle.

Whether you are tracking a gorilla family through Bwindi, waiting on the bank of the Mara River for the herds to cross, or following chimpanzees through Kibale at first light, your safari is shaped around the moment you came for. With a guide who lives in these places at your side, it stays personal, and it treads lightly on the forests and plains you travelled so far to see.

The year, and what it costs you
June to SeptemberThe long dry season
Firm forest trails, short grass in the savanna parks and predictable roads. The busiest months, and gorilla permits for them go first.
October, NovemberThe short rains
Rain in the afternoon that rarely lasts the day. Green country, few vehicles, and a USD 600 Uganda gorilla permit in November.
December to FebruaryThe second dry season
Hot and clear, busy over Christmas, then quiet through January. February is calving season on the southern Serengeti.
March to MayThe long rains
The wettest stretch and the hardest underfoot. April and May carry the USD 600 Uganda permit, birding peaks, and the forest is very nearly empty.
