Safaris
Photography Safaris
A window seat on both sides, and a guide who will wait.
A photography safari is mostly a scheduling problem. The light is good for about ninety minutes twice a day, and an ordinary itinerary spends both of those windows driving between lodges.
So the route gets built backwards from the light. Lodges inside the park rather than outside the gate. Game drives that leave before the gate opens and come back after it closes where the park allows it. Fewer parks, more mornings in each.
The practical things matter as much. A guaranteed window seat for everyone, which private departures make easy. A guide who will hold position for forty minutes rather than move on. Somewhere to charge and back up at the end of a day, which not every lodge in Uganda can actually do.
What that means in practice
- Routes built around first and last light, not around driving
- Everyone gets a window, because the vehicle is only yours
- Bean bags and a guide who will wait rather than move on
- Power and backup checked lodge by lodge before the trip is confirmed
