Arrival in Kampala
As you arrive at Entebbe Airport, our representative will be there to welcome you and transfer you to your luxury accommodation in Kampala. After settling in, we head out to explore the vibrant city of Kampala before retiring for the night.
Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
After breakfast, we head towards Nakasongola District, the home of the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Upon arrival, we check into our lodge and take a short nature walk to stretch our legs. Later, we learn about the rhino re-introduction project at the sanctuary and how our lodge supports the Rhino Fund of Uganda.
Get ready for an exciting shoebill canoe ride in the Lugogo Wetlands, where you can spot a wide variety of rare birds and animals. For those interested in birdwatching, there's an optional nature walk to explore the sanctuary's 350 bird species.
Rhino Tracking and Safari Walk
Rise and shine early this morning for a canoe ride in search of the unique shoebill bird in the Lugogo Wetlands. After breakfast, we proceed for an exhilarating rhino tracking experience on foot, accompanied by a well-trained guide.
You'll learn more about rhinos, local botany, general bush knowledge, birds, and other animals that call the savannah home. The Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and its resident beasts are patrolled and monitored by Rhino Fund Uganda’s own rangers on a 24/7 basis, so you can rest assured that you're in safe hands.
Murchison Falls National Park
After breakfast, we check out and proceed to the Murchison Falls National Park. On our way, we'll drive through the park and cross the Victoria Nile River to reach our lodge. After lunch and some free time, we embark on an exciting boat ride along the river, looking out for crocodiles and hippos.
Later, we hike a short distance to marvel at the impressive Murchison Falls. The force of the water as the Nile forces its way through a small gap in the rocks before flowing westward into Lake Albert is truly remarkable.
Kaniyo Pabidi and Rabongo Forest
After an early breakfast and morning game drive, this will be a free day to either relax or take up some optional activities. We recommend visiting Kaniyo Pabidi, a beautiful natural forest dominated by giant mahogany and ironwood trees. Here, we can track chimpanzees from the Kaniyo Pabidi tourism site, which is run by the Jane Goodall Institute.
The birdlife here is abundant and includes the chocolate-backed kingfisher, the white-thighed hornbill, and Puvel’s Illaposis, which are endemic to the region. Alternatively, we can explore Rabongo Forest, an island of tropical river forest set in a sea of grassland. Exploring the forest on foot is highly recommended, as we might come across primates such as the black-white colobus, red-tailed monkey, baboon, or even a chimpanzee.
Return to Kampala
Today, we bid farewell to the lush Murchison Falls National Park and head back to Kampala. After the long drive, we anticipate arriving at the hotel before 6 pm, marking the end of our incredible journey.
