Day 1

Nairobi – Drive to Samburu Game Reserve

This morning we travel by road to Kenya’s Northern Frontier District. Wild and rugged, Samburu is fiercely beautiful with its arid savannahs watered by the lovely Uaso Nyiro River.

It is also one of Kenya’s most protected areas and home to species only found north of the equator, from the reticulated giraffe to Grevy’s zebras and Beisa oryxes. Dinner and overnight at campsite or lodge.

Day 2

Full Day in Samburu National Reserve

This full day in the Samburu Game Reserve will be spent searching for the big five, the Samburu Five, and observing the vast unspoiled scenery during morning and afternoon game viewing drives.

Samburu game reserve is renowned for its rare species of animals unique to the park, namely: the long-necked gerenuk, Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, and Beisa oryx.

The elusive Kenya leopard is often known to visit the park, especially in the evenings. Other Kenyan wildlife found in the park includes cheetahs and lions, as well as elephants, buffalo and hippos.

Birdlife is as plentiful as wildlife at Samburu National Reserve, which boasts over 350 different species of birds including vultures, kingfishers, marabous, bateleurs, guinea fowl, Somali ostriches, and others.

A camel-back safari is a specialty in Samburu, as well as a cultural visit to the Samburu people who depend on their cattle, goat, sheep, and donkey, can be arranged. Dinner and overnight at campsite or lodge.

Day 3

Samburu – Drive to Aberdare National Park

Our destination today is the Aberdare National Park or Mt. Kenya National Park. We travel overland south crossing the equator to The Aberdare Country Club, nestled on the slopes of Mweiga Hill.

After lunch and high tea, set off for the Ark tree lodge, located in the forest on mountain slopes of the Aberdare Mountains at 7,000 feet.

This outstanding lodge offers high altitude game viewing, including animals that are rarely encountered elsewhere: giant forest hog, bush pig, tree hyrax, large spotted genet, and the elusive bongo.

Wildlife can be observed from different levels – and from outside where you can see, hear and smell everything and inside where you can sit with a cup of tea and stay warm and cosy.

You can put in a request to be awakened during the night if your favourite animals show up. A herd of Elephants might be just feet away and if you are lucky, a Leopard or large male Lion might put in an appearance. Dinner and overnight at The Ark lodge.

Day 4

The Ark Lodge – Drive to Lake Nakuru National Park

Today we travel to the exotic Lake Nakuru national park located in the Great Rift Valley. After lunch, an exciting game run is planned for the afternoon.

The game in this park is plentiful and the magnificent bird watching will make a devotee out of even the most reluctant.

The Park is home to stunning flocks of lesser and Greater Flamingos, which literally turn the lakeshores in to a magnificent pink stretch.

The bird life here is world-renowned and over 400 bird species exist here, including white pelicans, plovers, egrets, and marabou storks. It is also one of the very few places in Africa to see the white Rhino and rare Rothschild Giraffe. Dinner and overnight at campsite or lodge.

Day 5

Lake Nakuru – Drive to Maasai Mara Game Reserve

This morning we drive through the dramatic Great Rift Valley to the Maasai Mara National Reserve.

This enormous reserve is actually part of the vast Serengeti plains famously known for its spectacular great wildebeest’s migration and is home of the Big Five: Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Buffalo and Rhino.

Lunch at our lodge/ camp and relax before departing for the afternoon game drive. The Maasai Mara Game Reserve is one of the greatest wildernesses in the world. Large mammals are varied and easy to see.

Residents among the Park’s are the Maasai giraffe, buffalo, eland and thousands of game including impala, zebra, topi, and both Thomson’s and Grants Gazelles. Overnight at Aruba Mara Camp

Day 6

Discover Maasai Mara Game Reserve

The search for great predators and perhaps even cubs continues today and tomorrow during extensive game runs. On the plains are enormous herds of grazing animals plus the elusive cheetah and leopard hiding amidst acacia boughs.

During our stay, we also have an optional opportunity to visit a village of the Maasai people to witness the singing and dancing that are part of their daily lives and sacred rituals.

A glimpse into their homes and social structure is a poignant experience. Dinner and overnight at campsite or lodge.

Day 7

Maasai Mara – Drive to Nairobi

Morning game drive to savour the beauty of the park, return to the lodge for breakfast. After, depart for Nairobi by road arriving late in the afternoon
