  • Mountain gorilla Uganda- Wild Route Tours

This 3 days gorilla and golden monkey tracking tour will give you two prime safari activities in Rwanda.  The highlights in the volcanoes national park are gorilla tracking and golden monkey tracking. You have an opportunity to learn a bit about the Rwandan culture too.  Visit a cultural village later after your gorilla experience.

Many people plan for years to be able to watch the mountain gorillas in their natural habitats. Rwanda’s Volcanoes national park is among the four parks where mountain gorillas are currently inhabiting.

This 3 days tour is suitable for bleisure travellers. These are tourists with both business and leisure motives in a destination.

This gorilla safari will bring you close to these gigantic but gentle animals that live in a communal family.  The families are usually led by the dominant silverback.

In some gorilla groups, you will find more than one silverback. In these cases, it implies the other silver-backs had to submit to the alpha gorilla.

Volcanoes national park:

Volcanoes national park is about 2 hours drive from Kigali. As you travel to the home of mountain gorillas in the Virunga volcanoes, enjoy the scenery of ‘the thousand hills’. Gorilla tracking will take you in the deep jungles as you search for these massive animals. Your ranger guide in communication with the trackers who leave early morning will soon lead you to the location of the gorillas.

The park authorities let you spend up to one hour with gorillas and get within five feet of a Gorilla once you locate them. In some instances, the young gorillas may come closer to you or out of curiosity touch you. However, one should not respond because the silverback could respond violently…This will be in an attempt to protect its young one from you.

Day 1 – Kigali to Volcanoes National Park

On arrival to Kigali drive straight to Volcanoes National Park – a stunning three-hour drive north among the lush, green landscape of the countryside. The landscape of Volcanoes National Park is incredible with a spectacular line of volcanoes far into the distance.

Stay at a hotel of your choice. Spend the evening relaxing and preparing for the gorilla tracking the next morning.

Day 2 – Volcanoes National Park

Gorilla tracking in Volcanoes National Park: Wake up at sunrise and drive the short journey to the park headquarters where briefing, porters and tea and coffee will be given before starting the adventure into the forest. Local porters can be arranged and help with the guide to complete the gorilla tracking experience.

Tracking can be between 90 minutes and the whole morning depending on what family group is assigned. You will spend one hour with the gorillas – sometimes moving around to stay with the gorillas or following them. The guide will ensure you are in the best spots to take the most beautiful pictures and experience the breathtaking experience properly.

You will then return to your hotel to freshen up and spend the evening preparing for golden monkey tracking in the morning.

Day 3 – Volcanoes National Park to Kigali

Golden monkey tracking: Hikes to see the smaller and nimbler monkeys are a fun and adventurous way to explore the forest.
